English cricket team selects five Indian Premier League players for one-day international series against West Indies
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to resume shortly, following a temporary suspension due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. This development comes as ten English players participating in the IPL are scheduled to meet with the Professional Cricketers' Association to discuss safety protocols related to their potential return to India.
The English Cricket Board (ECB) is currently reassessing no-objection certificates (NOCs) for players due to the rescheduling of the IPL. Originally, the IPL final was scheduled for May 25, and the ECB granted NOCs based on this date. However, the IPL's schedule has seen a shift, with the final now set for June 3, which coincides with the date of England's third and final ODI against the West Indies.
Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, Will Jacks, Tom Hartley, Brydon Carse, and Phil Salt are among the 16 players selected for England's ODI and T20 squads. Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, and Will Jacks are among the 16 players selected for the ODI squad, while Phil Salt has been named in England's squad for the three-match T20 series that will start shortly after the conclusion of the IPL.
Notably, Tom Hartley and Brydon Carse have made notable returns to the ODI squad, and Liam Livingstone will not feature in England's ODI squad. Jordan Cox, Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Tymal Mills, Rehan Ahmed, Jos Buttler, and John Turner have been added to England’s T20 squad for the series against the West Indies, excluding Phil Salt.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is also set to discuss the potential impact of the IPL's rescheduling on the players' availability for the upcoming one-day international series against the West Indies. Five players currently participating in the IPL have been included in England's team for this series.
The IPL's rescheduling poses a challenge for both the players and the boards, as they navigate the complexities of international cricket commitments and domestic league obligations. The meetings between the players and the ECB will undoubtedly provide valuable insights into how best to manage these challenges moving forward.
