Scorching Century Blasts in Back-to-Back Matches! England's Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont Ink Crushing Wins Against West Indies
England's women's team clinches one-day international series with a commanding victory over West Indies.
Get ready for some batter-blasting, century-scoring action as England's unstoppable opening duo, Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont, continued their rampage against the West Indies in the Women's ODI series!
The ladies in blue handed the West Indies yet another humiliating defeat at Grace Road, sealing an unbeatable 2-0 lead in this thrilling three-match series.
In the first inning, Jones and Beaumont showed off their destructive prowess, tearing apart the West Indies bowling attack with an awe-inspiring 202-run partnership for the first wicket! This was a sequel to their astonishing 222-run opening stand in the series opener at Derby last Friday.
The West Indies, reeling from poor form, were further crippled by the absence of skipper Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph, leaving them without their top-tier openers. The visitors desperately struggled, with the regular top-order missing in action.
Jones, previously a middle-order batswoman, has flourished and found her calling as an opener. With a masterful display, she smashed 129 off 98 balls, decked out with 20 fierce boundaries. Just days earlier, she scored her maiden ODI century – 122 at Derby – marking a remarkable transformation in her career.
Beaumont, the more experienced of the duo, followed suit, notching up her second consecutive century, ending the match with a six over midwicket. This was her 12th ODI century, earning her the title of England's leading century-scorer in women's ODIs.
Their consecutive double-century stands now position them alongside Australia's star pair Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry as the only partnerships in women’s cricket history to achieve this monumental feat.
Down the order, England continued their dominance, with Emma Lamb contributing a swift 55, and Sophia Dunkley blasting 31 off 19 balls, powering the hosts to an intimidating total of 366/6 in 50 overs.
While chasing the daunting 367-run target, the depleted West Indies faltered miserably and fell well short of the mark. The only bright spark for the visitors was the debut performance of opener Realeanna Grimmond, who scored a composed 53 off 72 balls.
Middle-order batter Jannillea Glasgow added a furious 44 off 24 balls, but their efforts couldn’t even heave a challenge at England’s formidable score.
With the ball, Alice Capsey spearheaded the attack for England, claiming a stellar 3/42 in 8.3 overs, while Lauren Filer and Linsey Smith bagged two wickets each. Bell, Cross, and Davidson-Richards got one wicket apiece.
The series will culminate at Taunton on Saturday, June 7. England will aim for a clean sweep in the final ODI, having already vanquished the West Indies in the T20I series 3-0. Don't miss out on the exciting matchup!
On the backdrop of England's T20I series victory, history is being rewritten in the Women's ODI series as the English duo, Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont, continue to excel in sports. Their recent exploits, including back-to-back double century stands, echo the achievements of Australian stars Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry, etching their names in the annals of women's cricket history.
