England's Euro Championship title celebrations marred by Chloe Kelly's public apology following her actions during the trophy parade
England's Euros Victory Celebrated in London
After an exhilarating Euros final against Spain, England's Lionesses emerged victorious, with Chloe Kelly scoring the decisive spot kick in the penalty shootout. The victory marked England's back-to-back European Championship titles.
On July 29, 2025, the team, along with head coach Sarina Wiegman, embarked on an open-top bus parade down The Mall in Central London, celebrating their triumph with thousands of enthusiastic fans.
During the parade, Chloe Kelly expressed her gratitude to the supporters and entertained the crowd. In an emotional moment, she was interviewed by BBC presenter Alex Scott, where she exclaimed, "It’s so f-----g special," following her penalty kick. While the language was unexpected, Kelly later apologised for her outburst, acknowledging the live broadcast's wide audience and the need for decorum.
Despite the occasional slip-up, the celebration was a joyous occasion. Captain Leah Williamson delivered a more measured speech, appreciating the fans and encouraging continued support. The event took place on a stage in front of Buckingham Palace, with approximately 65,000 people in attendance.
The victory also marked the return of 19 out of the 23 Lionesses squad members to their domestic action with their club sides in about a month. Chloe Kelly, who returned to Arsenal, where she began her career, after playing for Everton and Manchester City, provided an assist for Alessia Russo in the Euros final.
As the bus parade concluded, the team and their supporters were filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing they had written a new chapter in English football history.
