Engineers brave –50°C to restore power after Krasnoyarsk transmission line fault

A major repair operation has successfully restored power in Krasnoyarsk Krai after a fault disrupted the 35 kV Bolshaya Murta–Backmarket overhead line. The 30-kilometre transmission route was fixed under extreme conditions, with temperatures dropping as low as –50°C. Engineers worked around the clock to bring electricity back to affected residents and essential services.

The fault occurred on the 35 kV Bolshaya Murta–Backmarket line, prompting an urgent response. Three repair crews from Rosseti Siberia’s Krasnoyarskenergo branch were dispatched to the site between January 16 and 20. Their task was complicated by freezing weather, with thermometers hitting –50°C during the operation.

To prevent prolonged outages, two backup power sources were set up in Predvinsk. These ensured that critical facilities and households remained supplied while repairs took place. Throughout the process, teams coordinated closely with local authorities and the regional EMERCOM office. The engineers moved quickly to identify and fix the issue. Their efforts paid off, as full electricity supply was restored shortly after the fault was eliminated.

The repair work has now concluded, with all affected areas regaining power. The operation required three specialist teams working in severe cold, supported by emergency generators and close cooperation with regional officials. No further disruptions have been reported since the line was brought back online.
