High demand for energy advice - Energy advice demand soars in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as costs rise

Demand for energy advice in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has surged in recent years. The number of consultations jumped from around 5,000 in 2020 to over 25,000 by 2024. Rising energy costs and government funding schemes have driven residents to seek expert guidance on heating, contracts, and efficiency measures.

The Consumer Advice Center of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania recorded 3,565 energy consultations in 2025 alone. This marks an increase of over 1,000 since 2021, reflecting growing public concern. Many inquiries now focus on heating cost statements, renewable energy options, and modern heating systems.

Low-income households have been particularly active in seeking support. Legal issues around electricity and gas contracts also remain a key issue, with 505 cases handled last year—an average of 14 per working day. The centre operates six dedicated counselling offices and 23 energy advice points across the state. Funding from the regional government reached €927,000 in 2025, helping to expand services. Wiebke Cornelius, the managing director, noted that housing and energy advice continue to dominate requests.

The sharp rise in consultations highlights ongoing challenges with energy affordability and efficiency. With state funding and expanded services, the Consumer Advice Center is meeting increased demand. Residents are now better equipped to navigate heating costs, contracts, and sustainable energy choices.
