Enemy benefits from the leaked video from Sde Teiman
The controversial video, allegedly showing an assault on a Nukhba terrorist, has caused a stir, with various parties expressing concern and criticism over its leak and the subsequent fallout.
The Ministry of Justice has chosen not to investigate the leak, a decision that has been met with criticism from other departments. The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, for instance, has criticised the Attorney General's Office over the handling of the Sde Teiman affair. Minister Amichai Chikli, from the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, has demanded an update and response to the Supreme Court regarding the Sde Teiman affair.
The video, found to be edited, has undermined support for Israel's ongoing military operations and caused a sharp rise in antisemitic discourse worldwide. Minister Chikli argues that the leak sparked a global wave of antisemitism, with false claims of "rapes encouraged by rabbis" and accusations that the IDF is a "Nazi army" circulating widely. Among the narratives circulated were comparisons of the prison to concentration camps, Guantanamo, and Abu Ghraib. These statements were viewed over 100 million times globally.
The State Attorney's Office has been urged to regard such incidents as threats to national security. The Israeli military authorities, however, have stated that the release of the video did not cause harm to national security and did not reveal any secret information. This contradicts the position of professional authorities, according to the Ministry.
Minister Chikli has attached an expert opinion from Avi Cohen-Scali, Director General of the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, to his petition to State Attorney Amit Aisman. Cohen-Scali noted that the Ministry's purview includes combating antisemitism and operating the national control and monitoring center for online antisemitism. The video, he argues, has increased real threats to IDF soldiers.
The leak has also placed IDF soldiers at risk of both legal and physical persecution, according to Minister Chikli. The report concluded that the leak caused first-degree political, security, and awareness damage. The Israeli military authorities' decision not to investigate the leak has been met with further criticism, as the video caused a significant impact, both domestically and internationally.
