Encounter in Akhal Forest of J-K: Two soldiers perish, one terrorist apprehended
Ongoing Counter-Terrorism Operation in Kulgam, Kashmir
The latest updates on the ongoing security operation in the Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district indicate that it has been continuing for at least five days as of August 5, 2025. The joint operation is being carried out by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF, and the Special Operations Group (SOG).
The operation started around August 2, when terrorists opened fire at a joint search party of the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police SOG. So far, at least one terrorist has been neutralized during intense and intermittent firefights, with security forces maintaining a tight cordon around the area.
This operation follows increased counter-terrorism efforts after the Pahalgam attack, with security forces intensifying their offensive against militant outfits in the Kashmir Valley. Senior security leadership, including the J&K DGP and IGP Kashmir Range, have visited Kulgam to review and recalibrate counter-terrorism strategies.
Other related operations include a successful anti-infiltration operation by the Indian Army's White Knight Corps in the Poonch sector on July 30, where two terrorists were neutralized while trying to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC).
In the Akhal Devsar operation, the Baramulla Police also busted a terrorist hideout in the Gogaldara-Danwas forest and seized a grenade, a pistol, a magazine, nine rounds of ammunition, and medical supplies. An FIR has been registered at PS Tangmarch in connection with the Baramulla Police operation.
However, the operation has come at a cost. Two jawans, Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, have died in the line of duty during operations in South Kashmir's Kulgam district. Chinar Corps has paid tribute to the supreme sacrifice of these brave soldiers and stands in solidarity with their families.
The Indian Army expresses its deepest condolences to the families of Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, who gave their lives for the nation. No further updates beyond August 5, 2025, are found in the current search results.
