En Route to Meet the Prime Minister, Shashi Tharoor's Criticism of the "Inefficient" Delhi Airport

Twist in Delhi's Turbulent Skies:

New Delhi: In an unusual turn of events, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi promptly, despite encountering hiccups at Delhi's notoriously crowded skies. Tharoor, who represents Thiruvananthapuram constituency, labeled the Delhi airport as "dysfunctional."

Taking to his preferred social platform, Mr. Tharoor penned, "Battled the dysfunctional Delhi airport delays, yet managed to land in Thiruvananthapuram just in time to greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his arrival in my constituency."

Despite the claimed disarray at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), the airport authorities have remained tight-lipped about the issue. Recently, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) had announced potential flight delays due to altering wind patterns near the airport. However, this advisory was only issued for April 29 and not for today. The ongoing challenges at the IGIA have resulted in numerous flight delays, averaging approximately 30 minutes per flight.

The IGIA has been grappling with operational issues, including the closure of its primary runway (28/10) since April 8 for an Instrument Landing System (ILS) upgrade, reduced operational capacity, and the complications brought about by changing wind patterns.
