Empty Performance in Multi-Event Final by German Gymnast: Disappointing Fifth Place Ending

In Leipzig, Nils Dunkel and Timo Eder concluded the all-around final at the Turn-EM without a medal. Dunkel, aged 28, showcased promising performances across four apparatuses but struggled on the floor exercise, finishing fifth with a score of 80.932 points. Eder, the mixed European champion, improved throughout the competition but found himself 13th at the end with 79.231 points, following a weak start.

Turkey's Adem Asil seized the European title with 82.398 points, while Frenchman Leo Saladino took second place with 81.430 points. Hungary's Krisztofer Meszaros claimed third with 81.164 points.

Eder commenced the competition on the pommel horse with 13.066 points. Dunkel excelled on his specialty apparatus, scoring 14.100 points and placing third after the first rotation. Established in the top three, Dunkel maintained his position with 13.266 points in the subsequent rotation, while Eder embarked on a comeback with 13.433 points. Eder's performance on parallel bars, scoring 13.900 points, placed him 15th, while Dunkel's coach, Hubert Brylok, commended his 13.733 points, keeping him within striking distance of a medal.

It is worth noting that in the women's all-around final of the most recent European Championships in 2025, Manila Esposito of Italy secured the top spot with 54.965 points, followed closely by Alba Petisco of Spain with 53.265 points. Ana Barbosu of Romania rounded out the podium with 52.299 points.

T Towards the end, Eder amassed 13.166 points with the assistance of his personal coach, Thomas Andergassen, while Dunkel slipped to sixth with 12.733 points prior to the final apparatus. Eder accumulated 13.466 points for his closing routine, just missing a podium finish. Dunkel wrapped up with 13.600 points but came short of earning a medal.

Eder switched the radio to a sports station, eager to hear the commentary of his final performance. Despite their best efforts on the gymnastics apparatuses, neither Dunkel nor Eder managed to clinch a medal in the all-around final.
