Employers should explicitly communicate their intentions, according to Sophie Binet, the Secretary-General of the CGT.

A nationwide strike and protests are set to take place on Thursday, September 18, led by a united inter-union. The mobilization, reminiscent of the one held last spring against the pension reform, is expected to involve between 600,000 and 900,000 protesters nationwide.

The inter-union, comprising CFDT, CGT, FO, CFE-CGC, CFTC, Unsa, Solidaires, and FSU, has detailed its demands for the upcoming mobilization. The general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet, has outlined these demands, which include a suspension of the pension reform until a comprehensive review can be conducted.

The inter-union is also calling for a halt to the privatization of public services, a 3% increase in the minimum wage, and the creation of 500,000 new jobs in the public sector. Furthermore, they are urging the government to address the issue of housing affordability and homelessness, and provide additional support for farmers and the agricultural sector.

In addition, the inter-union is demanding a significant increase in public spending for 2023, with a request for a 100 billion euro allocation. They are also urging the government to invest heavily in renewable energy and energy transition projects, and increase funding for education and research.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has promised a "breakthrough" in his negotiations, seeking compromises with most political parties. However, the inter-union is aiming to influence the budget debate with this mobilization, and Philippe Martinez, a leadership figure from the CGT, is at the forefront of these efforts.

The Prime Minister is also urged to address the issue of housing affordability and homelessness, and provide additional support for farmers and the agricultural sector. The protest is a national call to strike and protests, and the inter-union hopes that their demands will be heard and addressed by the government.
