Standing Up for Workers: DGB's Battles Against Redistribution and Abolition of Benefits
- *
Employees seek relief from DGB - Fahimi opposes cancellation of public holiday - Employees should face layoffs, according to DGB, despite Fahimi's opposition toward scraping a scheduled holiday.
The head honcho of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), Yasmin Fahimi, raised some alarming warnings about those who wish to skip out on paying sick leave and abolish public holidays. "It's all about redistributing the wealth from the bottom to the top, and we can't let that happen," she bluntly stated. "Instead, those with hefty stacks of cash need to step up and face some societal accountability," she demanded. Her proposed solutions? "Slap on a wealth tax and a fairer, progressive top tax rate!"
Fahimi didn't hold back, blasting the soon-to-be ruling coalition while addressing the pressing concerns of the working class. "Don't use our social security systems as a dumping ground for extra services without decently funding them with taxes," she chastised. The 'employers' chat about capping social security contributions' is just "a cheap, distracting tactic," she pointed out. Lower social security contributions mean zilch to employees if they have to foot the bill privately to cover the gaps, she explained. That's just employers "trying to chew away at social benefits."
