"Employees are continuously leaving our organization"
In Bremen, a citizens' initiative is underway with the goal of preventing the reduction of beds in local hospitals and the closure of the LDW clinic. The signature collection for this initiative is ongoing, with an initial target of 5,000 valid signatures required to qualify. If this number is reached, a referendum is typically tied to an election.
If successful, the referendum could potentially take place during the upcoming state election in two years, coinciding with Bremen's election schedule. For the referendum to proceed to a subsequent stage, a total of 23,600 signatures are needed.
The proposed move of the hospital to Mitte, a different district in Bremen, is facing significant opposition. According to a survey, 80 percent of the hospital staff would not support this move due to various reasons, including concerns about their future commute. These concerns are heightened by the upcoming Weser bridge renovations, which could further complicate travel for many employees.
The move project is also facing a shortage of skilled workers. If this continues, the move project may fail due to the lack of necessary staff. In fact, many employees are already leaving the hospital due to the move project, adding to the growing concern.
To compound the issue, almost 50 percent of the employees come from the Lower Saxony area. With the move, these employees are already looking for alternatives in Delmenhorst or Oldenburg, raising questions about the hospital's ability to retain its workforce.
As of now, there are no recent updates available regarding the current status of the citizen's initiative. However, the dedication and support of the initiative's backers remain steadfast, as they continue to collect signatures in their quest to save Bremen's hospitals and the LDW clinic.
