In a recent development, the Judea and Samaria District's prosecution unit has filed an indictment against an Arab employee of the Civil Administration for assaulting a right-wing activist in the Gush Etzion region.

The incident, which occurred approximately two weeks ago, took place after an Israeli outpost near the settlement of Metzad was evacuated. The activist was attacked by several Arab workers who were clearing the site. The assault was particularly violent, with the activist being struck forcefully on the head with a metal crowbar or rod, resulting in deep cuts. As a result, the activist required medical treatment and fell to the ground.

Five workers were detained following the incident, but they were released without any restrictions. However, one of these workers has been indicted in connection with the attack on the right-wing extremist activist.

Attorney Chaim Bleicher from Honenu is representing the activist and has called on the police and the prosecution unit to ensure full accountability. He has also demanded that investigative procedures be tightened to prevent the release of suspects in serious violent offenses before an indictment is filed.

It's important to note that detention can continue as necessary for suspects in serious violent offenses, but in this case, the release of the suspects prevented the imposition of any restrictive conditions or detention.

Bleicher described the circumstances and consequences of the incident in a letter to the police. The attack was carried out using sharp tools such as shovels, crowbars, pickaxes, and bars.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring justice and accountability in such cases. The police and the prosecution unit are expected to handle the case diligently to ensure a fair and just outcome.
