Emotional Journey of a Rider: An Insight into the Untamed Feelings Invoked by the Postponement of Tokyo Competition

Amelia White and the Postponement of the Tokyo Games: A Journey of Perseverance

Amelia White, an Australian para-rider, was one step closer to achieving her dream of representing her country in the para-dressage event at the Tokyo Olympics before the games were postponed. The young horse, Genius, under White's skilled guidance, was expected to benefit significantly from the extra year of training.

However, the postponement of the Tokyo Games, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has thrown many athletes' plans out, including White's. The postponement has affected her training program significantly, disrupting her progress with Genius and causing uncertainty about the final team selection.

White moved to Germany in 2015 to train with Olympian Helen Langehanenberg. Since then, she has been working tirelessly, making personal and financial sacrifices to pursue her dreams. The postponement of the Games has only added to these challenges.

The postponement has also raised concerns for equestrians, particularly those with older horses. Riders may face challenging decisions due to the postponement, as it may be too much to ask horses nearing retirement to maintain top level performance for another year. White, on the other hand, is fortunate to have Genius, a young horse with potential to grow and develop further.

With competitions cancelled for the foreseeable future, it's unclear how equestrians will meet their minimum requirements to qualify for Tokyo 2021. White, who had been shortlisted to ride for the Australian Paralympic team, has dropped her intensive training schedule, focusing instead on maintaining her horse's fitness and introducing higher level movements.

The postponement of the Games is affecting White in a personal and emotional way. She felt her life goal slipping away after the postponement, but she sees the opportunity in the delay. White views the postponement as an opportunity to develop her partnership with Genius, to strengthen their bond and prepare for the challenges ahead.

Despite the difficulties, White remains hopeful. She is riding less frequently, but she is determined to make the most of this extra year of training. The postponement of the Tokyo Games to summer 2021 is seen as an opportunity for some equestrians to qualify an additional up-and-coming horse for the Games. White is one of them, and she is ready to face whatever comes next.

Meanwhile, not all athletes are as fortunate as White. Australian rider Emma Booth gave up her dream of competing at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, citing the uncertainty and disruption caused by the postponement as her reason for withdrawal. Some horses may not make it to the Tokyo Games due to injury or illness as a result of the postponement.

As the world waits for the Tokyo Games to commence, Amelia White continues to train, to hope, and to dream. She is a testament to the resilience and determination of athletes everywhere, a shining example of perseverance in the face of adversity.
