Emma Mackey Cast as the White Witch in Greta Gerwig's Narnia Film Adaptation
In a significant development for director Greta Gerwig's upcoming adaptation of C.S. Lewis' classic series, "The Chronicles of Narnia," Emma Mackey has been confirmed to play Jadis the White Witch, the series' chief antagonist. This casting marks a reunion between Gerwig and Mackey, who previously worked together on "Barbie."
Initially, speculation surrounded several actresses, including Mackey, pop star Charli XCX, and Margaret Qualley from "The Substance," for the role made iconic by Tilda Swinton in the 2005 Disney movie and its subsequent sequels, "Prince Caspian" and "Voyage of the Dawn Treader."
Based on "The Magician's Nephew," the sixth book in the youth-fantasy series, Gerwig's "Narnia" film is reportedly set to mark a new chapter in the beloved franchise. Subsequently, Netflix acquired the rights to adapt the remaining books, eventually securing Gerwig's involvement. To date, Meryl Streep is the only other cast member confirmed for the film, where she is set to portray Aslan, the talking lion who allies with the Penvensies to combat the White Witch.
Other cast members will be revealed gradually leading up to the film's eventual release, which is expected to premiere in theaters initially before being made available on Netflix at a later date. The film is tentatively scheduled for release around Thanksgiving Day 2026.
Additional confirmed cast members include Carey Mulligan, whose role has yet to be specified, and Daniel Craig, whose part remains undisclosed at this time.
