Emergency workers' admiration in Hesse: a focus on professional respect
In the heart of Germany, the state of Hesse has seen a significant number of attacks on its emergency services in recent years. According to the Hessian Interior Minister, Roman Poseck, there were 5,251 cases in 2023 and 5,240 cases in the following year, 2024.
Despite these challenges, the hardworking men and women in emergency services continue to go above and beyond, often working outside the spotlight and taking on important tasks. Their dedication does not go unnoticed, as Poseck emphasises, "Behind every uniform, there is a person who often sacrifices their free time for these tasks."
Recognising the value of their work, the Hessian state government has initiated a week-long campaign titled "Respect Week." The campaign aims to show support for the "blue light family," which includes the police, fire service, and emergency services.
Poseck and the Interior State Secretary, Martin Rößler, are actively participating in this campaign. They are visiting various stations, engaging with the public, and taking part in events such as "Cops in Dialogue" and a children's festival at the Police Presidency in Frankfurt.
The "Respect Week" campaign is gaining momentum, with focused reporting from HIT RADIO FFH. Poseck believes that emergency services personnel deserve respect and thanks for their work. He also notes that they face demanding situations, pushing their physical and mental limits for the sake of the community.
The initiative was launched due to the high number of attacks on emergency services, a concerning trend that Poseck hopes "Respect Week" will help to address. By shining a light on the crucial role these services play and the challenges they face, the campaign aims to foster a greater sense of appreciation and support for the "blue light family."
