The Krasnodar region is hosting its annual water rescue tournament, marking the third consecutive year for this significant event that coincides with International Water Rescue Day. This year, the tournament welcomes a new participant - a team from Abkhazia - as they join the nineteen teams from Sirius, Sochi, and Sukhumi in the competition.

While the tournament may appear to be a competition, its primary focus is on the exchange of experience and best practices among water rescuers. This emphasis on knowledge sharing is crucial in improving rescue skills, coordination, and preparedness, ultimately enhancing overall water rescue capabilities and safety in the region.

By prioritizing experience exchange over competition, the event fosters collaboration and promotes learning from real-world rescue scenarios. This approach helps standardize effective techniques, contributing to better outcomes in actual water emergencies. This aligns with the goals of International Water Rescue Day, which aims to raise awareness and strengthen rescue operations through collective expertise rather than rivalry.

During the competition, rescuing a drowning person and providing emergency medical aid are two crucial stages. The second stage places emphasis on quality rather than speed, reflecting the tournament's focus on skill and knowledge over speed.

The main judge of the competition is Denis Krivorogov, and the tournament's main goal is not to win, but to exchange experiences among rescuers. This year, the team of water rescuers from the "Rosa Khutor" beach emerged victorious, with saving a person's life considered the most important victory.

In addition to the water rescue tournament, a 150 km long river rafting event has also started in the Krasnodar region, adding another layer of excitement to the region's water-based activities. Despite recent news related to conflict-impacted security issues and drone attacks, the water rescue tournament stands apart as a constructive, cooperative event focused on lifesaving skills rather than conflict or competition.

Meanwhile, Dmitry Chmerenko, a water rescuer from Sukhumi with five years of experience, is participating in the competition for the first time alongside his Sukhumi colleagues. Their participation underscores the tournament's role in fostering collaboration and promoting the sharing of skills and knowledge among rescuers from different regions.

Sports such as water rescue are primarily about the exchange of knowledge and best practices among participants, rather than just competition. This tournament emphasizes learning from real-world scenarios, contributing to improved rescue skills and overall safety, much like the goals of International Water Rescue Day.
