Edmonton International Airport (EIA) will be conducting emergency security training exercises on Friday, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The training exercises, a collaborative effort with several partners, will take place in the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) area of the airport.

The annual training exercise involves participants from various sectors, including airport security personnel, representatives from the Canadian Border Services Agency, local law enforcement, emergency response teams, and personnel from the RCMP, EMS, and airport fire department.

During the training exercises, passengers and visitors at the airport may witness simulated emergency activity, such as emergency vehicles, lights, and sounds. However, the airport wants to ensure that passengers and anyone within the airport environment are not alarmed during the training exercises.

Erin Isfeld, the airport's corporate communications manager, stated, "We want to prevent alarm among passengers and visitors. The training exercises are not typical for an airport, and they are not intended to cause actual chaos or distress to passengers or visitors at the airport."

To help alleviate any potential concerns, there will be ample signage throughout the airport during the training exercises. Security staff will also be available to speak with passengers during this time.

Brandon Lynch of News Edmonton's website contributed to this report. The training exercises coincide with Canadian Airports Safety Week, a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting safety and security measures in airports across Canada.

It is essential to remember that these exercises are an integral part of maintaining a secure and safe environment for all passengers and airport personnel. The training exercises are crucial in ensuring that all parties involved are prepared to respond effectively in emergency situations.

In conclusion, the emergency security training exercises at Edmonton International Airport on Friday aim to enhance the safety and security of the airport environment. Passengers and visitors are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow any instructions provided by airport staff during the training exercises.
