Emerged video reveals arrest of prominent Mexican boxer, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency

Julio César Chávez Jr., the renowned Mexican boxer, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Studio City, California, on July 2, 2025. The boxer is currently being processed for expedited removal from the United States.

Chávez Jr. entered the U.S. on a B2 tourist visa that expired in February 2024. In April 2024, he applied for Lawful Permanent Resident status based on his marriage to a U.S. citizen. However, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has alleged that his application contained multiple fraudulent statements, making him ineligible to remain in the country legally.

The DHS also identified Chávez Jr. as an affiliate of the Sinaloa Cartel, a Mexican drug trafficking organization designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the previous U.S. administration. Chávez Jr. faces an active arrest warrant in Mexico for alleged involvement in organized crime, trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives.

The arrest took place just days after Chávez Jr.'s fight with Jake Paul. Michael Goldstein, Chávez Jr.'s attorney, stated that around 25 agents and officials were present for the arrest outside Chávez Jr.'s Studio City, Calif. home.

Chávez Jr.'s wife, Frida Múñoz, has an alleged connection to the Sinaloa Cartel from a previous relationship to the late son of leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

Despite being deemed an "egregious public safety threat" by ICE in December 2024, Chávez Jr. was allowed back into the U.S. on Jan. 4, 2025, as he was not considered an "immigration enforcement priority" under the administration of former President Joe Biden. However, his status changed following the fraudulent statements on his application for lawful permanent resident status, and he was deemed "removable" by the DHS on June 27, 2025.
