Emerge from Puducherry unveils their latest creation, the album "Cage": a daring blend of jazz, rock, folk, and blues.

Puducherry-based band Emergence has recently released their fourth album, Cage. The album, which was recorded with just two days of rehearsal, showcases a unique blend of jazz, rock, folk, and blues, creating a genre-defying soundscape.

The current lineup of Emergence includes Krishna McKenzie, Dhani Muniz, Edmund Held, Joey Van Leeuwen, Navneeth Krishnan, and Snigdha Sharma. Krishna, the founder of the band, wrote the lyrics, chords, and vocal melodies for the album.

Lead guitarist Dhani Muniz was inspired by the jazz-fusion group Weather Report for the sound of Cage. Dhani, who is also the lead guitarist for Emergence, incorporated this influence into his work on the band's album.

Cage consists of nine tracks: Afghan Rose, Ballad of the Open Road, Cage, Carla's Song, Damage, Harder the Heart, Sleeping Girl, So Full, and Voices. The title track, Cage, was a smooth recording session, with an unplanned outro that was later included in the final version.

Additional percussion overdubs were added to songs like Afghan Rose and So Full, enhancing their overall sound.

Dhani Muniz is preparing for two collaborative duo albums, Quos Ego with Aman Mahajan and Jugaad: Re-Semblance with Nishad Pandey, scheduled for release this year. In January, Dhani will record another instrumental album with his new band TRAK.

Emergence's artistry remains deeply rooted in Auroville's ethos, a community that prioritizes creative authenticity over commercial pressures. The band's current lineup came together almost by chance, with some members joining at the last minute.

The title "Cage" was chosen by the band to symbolize the feeling of being trapped as artists, similar to birds in a cage. This resonates with themes that emerged during the pandemic and their artistic experience.

Cage is a testament to Emergence's ability to create music that transcends traditional genres, while remaining grounded in their unique artistic vision.
