Elton John and David Furnish marked 20 years since their civil partnership on December 21, 2025. The couple first formalised their relationship on the very day such unions became legal in the UK.

The pair began their journey in May 2005, when Elton John proposed during a private dinner with close family and friends. Five months later, they became one of the first couples to enter a civil partnership under UK law.

Their relationship grew stronger over the years. In December 2010, they welcomed their first son, Zachary, followed by their second, Elijah, in January 2013. Then, on December 21, 2014—nine years after their civil partnership—they married at their Windsor estate. Reflecting on their milestone, Elton John called Furnish his 'wonderful husband' in an Instagram post. Furnish, in turn, shared his gratitude for the 'beautiful life' they have built together.

The anniversary comes two decades after their civil partnership and 11 years after their wedding. Their family now includes two sons, and both have spoken openly about the joy of their life together. The date remains significant, marking both a personal and legal milestone in their relationship.
