Construction work at the Elsen Bridge delayed - Elsenbrücke Completion Delayed to January Amid Construction Challenges

The western part of the road bridge over the Spree, known as the Elsenbrücke, is now anticipated to be completed in January, potentially later than initially planned. The construction process has faced several challenges, including shortages of skilled workers and thefts on the site.

Currently, traffic is being redirected through a temporary bridge to accommodate the ongoing construction. However, this has led to significant traffic jams at times, particularly after the opening of the new section of the A100 at the end of August. The traffic situation in the area was already tense before the A100 extension went into operation, exacerbating the current issues.

The delays in construction are attributed to various factors, including weather conditions, personnel shortages, organizational problems, subcontractor deficiencies, and contractor dismissals. Shortages of skilled workers at construction companies have also contributed to the delay. Thefts on the construction site have further hindered progress.

The completion of the Elsenbrücke is now expected to be delayed by several weeks. The western part of the bridge is not anticipated to be finished until January, possibly later. The traffic situation in the area remains tense, with regular major traffic problems occurring due to increased traffic volume and the ongoing construction.
