Elite titles claimed by Melisa Rollins and Alexey Vermeulen at Chequamegon MTB Festival during the fourth round of Life Time Grand Prix competition
In the rolling, technical landscape of north-west Wisconsin, Alexey Vermeulen (ENVE) claimed victory at the Life Time Chequamegon MTB Festival. The 38.3-mile mountain bike race, one of the oldest and longest-running in the US, saw Vermeulen make his moves with around seven miles to go, accelerating to the front of a 15-rider group to earn his win.
Vermeulen completed the challenging course in a time of 1:56:44, finishing 8 seconds ahead of Brendan Johnston (Giant) and Kyan Olshave (Glori), who took third place. Olshave, however, is not part of the 2025 series.
Defending champion Keegan Swenson finished in 12th position, while the women's category was dominated by Melisa Rollins (Liv Racing Collective). Rollins, who is currently 14 points off the top spot in the Grand Prix, crossed the finish line in 2:14:05, 4:34 ahead of Sofia Gomez Villafañe (Specialized) and 8 seconds ahead of Alexis Skarda (Santa Cruz).
Rollins' win at the Life Time Chequamegon MTB Festival marks her second elite title of the season, adding to her growing reputation as a formidable competitor. Gomez Villafañe, who is 12 points behind Rollins in the Grand Prix standings, put up a valiant fight but ultimately came up short. Skarda, meanwhile, finished in third place, maintaining her eighth position in the overall Grand Prix standings.
Vermeulen's win moves him up to seventh overall in the men's Grand Prix standings, 25 points behind Swenson. The final two miles of the Life Time Chequamegon MTB Festival were changed this year for the pro field, adding an extra layer of challenge to an already demanding race.
In the women's category, the Life Time Chequamegon MTB Festival was won by Kate Courtney, ahead of Swenson. This year's race was a testament to the skill and determination of the competitors, with Vermeulen and Rollins demonstrating their prowess on the challenging course.
The Life Time Chequamegon MTB Festival continues to be a highlight of the mountain biking calendar, attracting some of the best riders in the sport and showcasing the beauty and difficulty of the Wisconsin terrain. With its rich history and intense competition, it's no wonder that the Life Time Chequamegon MTB Festival remains a must-do event for any serious mountain biker.
