Take a Gander at the 2025 Maryland Cycling Classic: The Women's Race is Gonna Be Lit!

Fire up your cycling gear, folks! America's newest and top-ranked professional women's road race, the Maryland Cycling Classic, is about to kick off this September, and it's a bonanza for cycling enthusiasts. With powerhouse teams like CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto and EF Education-Oatly in the mix, this is the first chance for American fans to catch some premium women's cycling action since the Amgen Tour of California in 2019.

Ronny Lauke, CEO and Team Manager of CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto, expressed his excitement: "Gotta say, we're stoked to finally bring our team back for the UCI 1.1 Maryland Cycling Classic. We can't wait to showcase our racing style and connect with the fans."

Four-time Olympic medalist Chloé Dygert hails from CANYON//SRAM and snagged a bronze medal in the individual time trial during last summer's Paris Olympics. You might recognize her track-side comrade Kristen Faulkner, who's a part of EF Education-Oatly and is the reigning Olympic road race champion.

The initial roster also includes American continental teams Cynisca and Virginia's Blue Ridge TWENTY24, as well as USA and Canadian domestic teams CCB, L39ION of Los Angeles, Cyclery Racing Team, and a Team USA composite squad. This event provides a precious chance for domestic elite riders to square off against and impress the world's finest athletes.

John Kelly, the Chairman of the Maryland Cycling Classic, is thrilled about the women's race: "I'm absolutely pumped to feature a women's race in the Maryland Cycling Classic for the first time. We've been working hard to make this happen, and this year's lineup is gonna deliver some intense racing."

The Baltimore-based event debuted in 2022, focused on bringing world-class competition back to American soil and stirring up some cycling fervor across the land.

The inaugural men's race in 2022 saw Sep Vanmarcke (Israel-Premier Tech) and Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) clinch the top spots. The race was cancelled in 2024 after the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The 2025 edition aims to up the ante with the addition of the women's event, plus a new race date in sync with the Canadian men's WorldTour events to attract European teams.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland, and will likely start between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM local time. The men's and women's races will happen on the same day, with similar courses highlighting Baltimore's hilly terrain and finishing on a brisk circuit around the Inner Harbor. The men's roster was announced last month, with WorldTour teams Lidl-Trek, EF Education-EasyPost, and Team Jayco-AlUla headlining the pack, followed by the women's teams. More details on the courses and race week schedule will be unveiled in June.
