Elite Eight Set: Underdogs and Powerhouses Clash for Final Four Spots

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament has reached its final eight teams. Exciting matchups are now set for the regional finals, with surprises and strong performances shaping the path to the Final Four. Fans and analysts alike are watching closely as underdogs and top seeds battle for a spot in the next round.

Michigan made a bold statement by defeating Alabama 90-77 on Saturday. The Wolverines, favoured by 9.5 points, dominated the game and secured their place in the regional finals. Their next challenge comes against Tennessee, who advanced after a convincing 76-62 win over Iowa State as 2.5-point underdogs.

In the East region, Duke narrowly escaped with an 80-75 victory over St. John's. Despite the win, they failed to cover the 6.5-point spread. Their reward is a tough matchup against UConn, who edged past Michigan State 67-63 as slight 2.5-point favourites. The West region will see No. 2 Purdue take on No. 1 Arizona, with the Boilermakers entering as 6.5-point underdogs. Purdue, despite never winning an NCAA championship, holds records like the most Big Ten regular-season titles and 35 tournament appearances. Their lone Final Four appearance came in 1969, where they lost to UCLA in the title game. A loyal fan, Dustin Swedelson, even pledged to shave his head if Purdue finally reaches the Final Four this year. The South region features a clash between No. 9 Iowa and No. 3 Illinois. Iowa, a 7.5-point underdog, will look to pull off another upset after Tennessee's earlier surprise win.

The Elite Eight is now set, with four high-stakes games on the schedule. Michigan and Duke enter as favourites in their respective regions, while Purdue and Iowa aim to defy the odds. The winners will advance to the Final Four, one step closer to the championship—something Purdue has chased for decades without success.
