The German investor group, led by Kahn, had submitted a formal takeover bid in January, aspiring to revitalize the beleaguered top club. However, Kahn has now officially departed from the investment plans following a series of thorough discussions and deliberations, as stated in his LinkedIn post[3].
"Upon critically evaluating the financial, operational, and legal data presented to us over the past week, we have decided not to invest the approximately €50 million earmarked for our project aimed at lifting FCGB back into Ligue 1," the statement reads. Girondins de Bordeaux, known for housing legends such as Zinedine Zidane and Bixente Lizarazu during their glory days, is now playing in the fourth-tier National 2 following a summer-long insolvency and demotion[2]. The club amassed debts surpassing €100 million.
In a summer statement to "Kicker," Kahn showed interest in football investments, stating, "Investing in football is not the same as investing in a manufacturing company. It's about culture, identity, community. If everything aligns, I can easily see myself being part of it"[4].
