Eleven teams participated in a family-oriented competition
The Nizhny Novgorod Region recently played host to the "Family in Sports" festival, an event aimed at encouraging outdoor family activities, including sports and survival skills. The festival, organised by the Nizhny Novgorod Council of Women, the Nizhny Novgorod Kylin Federation, and the "Revitalization of Traditional Russian Sports and Games" project, brought together 35 families from various districts of the region.
The festivities, held on the grounds of the "Olympiec" sports school on June 30, 2025, featured a kylakh tournament for family teams, educational masterclasses, team and fan competitions, and a family lecture on healthy living. The event was designed to promote the implementation of the national project "Family", which aims to strengthen family values, develop family institutions, and create comfortable conditions for upbringing.
The spirit of family-centered sports was evident as the Russian national sport, Kila, won the Grand Prix at the "You're in the Game" national competition involving children's teams and families interested in winter survival skills and active outdoor sports. This competition, which took place on July 1, 2025, underscores the recognition and support for family-oriented sports projects in Russia.
The "Family in Sports" festival was not just about competition, but also about fostering patriotic feelings in children and preserving an important part of Russian culture. Olga Krasnova, the chairperson of the Nizhny Novgorod Council of Women, expressed her gratitude to the participating families, saying, "Today, strong and united families from Nizhny Novgorod gathered here. It was truly intense, both in emotions and in the dynamic, exciting, and fast-paced kylakh game - our traditional Russian sport. May peace reign in your families, and may they grow stronger."
The Nizhny Novgorod Region is also set to host the World Youth Festival Assembly in September 2025, an event that will bring together 2,000 young people from Russia and abroad, including significant youth participation and volunteer involvement. This event, while distinct from the "Family in Sports" festival, highlights the region's emphasis on youth and sports cooperation.
The "Family" national project, which began in 2025, continues the tasks of the previous "Demography" and "Culture" national projects. The project includes measures to comprehensively develop families, such as expanding support measures, creating conditions for active longevity for the elderly, and ensuring high-quality and affordable medical care. The "Family in Sports" festival is just one of the many initiatives aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and strengthening families in the region.
Families participated in a variety of sports activities during the "Family in Sports" festival, held on the grounds of the "Olympiec" sports school. The kylakh tournament for family teams, featuring the Russian national sport, was a key component of the event.
