Top Contenders Eyeing Leadership Roles in NRW's Local Elections

ONTAP: Stirring things up in North Rhine-Westphalia's political scene, at least eleven members of the Landtag—the regional parliament—are gunning for top positions in the upcoming local elections on September 14, according to a dpa survey. The excited candidates are vying for roles as mayors, lord mayors, or district administrators.

First off, the CDU faction has seen quite the bustle. Guido Déus is running for lord mayor in Bonn, Ralf Nolten has his sights set on the district administrator position in Düren. Joining them are Henry Frieling, who's eyeing the district administrator role in Soest, and Ralf Schwarzkopf, who is Chasing the position in Märkischer.

The SPD isn't one to shy away from the competition. Fighter Josef Neumann is campaigning for lord mayor in Solingen, while Sven Wolf is going all out for lord mayor in Remscheid. Alexander Baer is eagerly seeking the mayoral post in Lemgo, and Hartmut Ganzke is gearing up for similar dreams in Unna.

Joining the Greens in the sweepstakes, Berivan Aymaz, Landtag's vice-president, is aiming to take over Henriette Reker's seat as lord mayor of Cologne. Meanwhile, Green MP Jan Matzoll is eying the mayor position in Recklinghausen.

The Free Democratic Party (FDP) haven't been quiet either, with Marcel Hafke throwing his hat in the ring for lord mayor in Wuppertal. The AfD, so far, seems to be keeping their powder dry, with no known aspirants making a switch from the Landtag to local politics.

With the July 7 deadline for candidate list submissions looming, it seems we'll be seeing more Landtag members joining the political race in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on your local news sources to catch all the latest updates!

The Commission has been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation. In Westphalia, Landtag's vice-president, Berivan Aymaz, is a candidate for the mayoral seat in Cologne. Guido Déus, a candidate from the CDU faction, is running for the lord mayor position in Bonn.
