Kanhaiya Kumar, a well-known Indian politician and student leader, has been nominated by the Communist Party of India (SIPI) as a candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He is running for election in the Biusarai district of Bihar, a region known for its strong leftist political history.
Born in a village in the Teghra assembly constituency of the Bagusarai district in Bihar, Kanhaiya Kumar has been active in various social movements, including the movement for the liberation of common Indian people from poverty, caste discrimination, and religious blindness.
Kanhaiya's political journey began during his Plus Two (higher secondary) education when he joined the All India Students' Federation (AISF). He later contested the Lok Sabha elections as a CPI candidate from Begusarai, Bihar. In his role with the Congress party, he has been actively involved in strengthening the party's presence in Bihar and addressing key issues like unemployment, migration, and the political dynamics in the state.
Kanhaiya Kumar is a graduate in geography and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in African Studies at JNU (Delhi). He completed his schooling at RKC High School in Barauni. In his school days, he was interested in acting and was an active member of the Indian People's Theater Association.
Kanhaiya's mother, Meena Devi, is an Anganwadi worker, and his elder brother works in the private sector. His father, Jaishankar Singh, has paralysis and lives on the bed for many years.
Over the years, Kanhaiya has gathered support and funds for his election campaign. Millions of rupees have been collected for his election expenses. He has been a leading figure in the movement following the murders of Gauri Lankesh, MM Since JNU, Kalgi, and Rohit Bimula.
Kanhaiya has been speaking in various cities of India after his government arrest and release. He is considered a fine speaker, and his speech given a day before his election is believed to have played a significant role in his win.
Giriraj Singh, the candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is his opponent in the Lok Sabha elections. Kanhaiya Kumar is 32 years old.
