Election Results Finalized Officially
The election for the Mayor of Münster, held on September 14, 2022, has concluded, and the official results have been confirmed by the election committee. In the first round, a total of 162,196 voters out of the 250,306 eligible voters cast their ballots, representing a voter turnout of 64.80 percent.
Tilman Fuchs, representing the Green Party (Grüne), emerged as the frontrunner, securing 41.30 percent of the votes. However, no candidate managed to receive more than 50 percent of the votes, necessitating a runoff election.
The runoff election will take place on September 28, 2025, and will pit Tilman Fuchs against Dr. Georg Lunemann from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). In the first round, Dr. Lunemann received 37.27 percent of the votes.
Other notable candidates included Stephan Brinktrine from the Social Democratic Party (SPD), who garnered 11.77 percent of the votes, Maren Berkenheide from Volt, who received 2.25 percent, Roland Scholle from The Party with 1.36 percent, Franz Pohlmann from the ÖDP with 0.59 percent, and Dr. Georgios Tsakalidis from the International Democratic List with 0.69 percent. Dr. Katharina Martinewski from The Left received 4.76 percent of the votes.
The election committee has confirmed that the election was conducted properly without objections.
