Election: Representative Praise for INEC and Security Services as Kaduna Demonstrates Consistent Voter Participation
Peaceful By-election in Chikun Federal Constituency, Kaduna State
Hussaini Mohammed Jalo, the current Member of the House of Representatives for Chikun Federal Constituency, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the Saturday by-election in Kaduna State.
The election, which took place in the Chikun Local Government Area, was conducted peacefully and under tight security following weeks of political tension. Jalo, who has been observing the situation since Friday night, did not witness any disruptions or issues during his observation.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) received a pass mark from Jalo, but he pointed out an area for improvement - the condition of the cubicle boxes used by INEC. No new information about the INEC's overall performance was provided beyond Jalo's comment about the cubicle boxes.
Voter turnout at the start of the by-election was slow, according to Jalo. However, he expects the voter turnout to improve in the next one or two hours.
Jalo emphasized that voting is a civic duty and a constitutional right. He urged eligible voters in Chikun and Kaduna State to participate in the by-election. No new information about any party officials or INEC staff being arrested, or about any suspected vote-buyer being arrested, was provided.
The Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency is one of the areas where INEC scheduled bye-elections. Jalo expressed his hope that the peaceful conduct of the election in Chikun would set a positive precedent for the other by-elections across the country.
