Election Outcome Finalized: Official Result Now Established
Münster, Germany, is gearing up for a crucial political event as the runoff election for the position of Mayor approaches on September 28. The election will determine the successor of outgoing Mayor Markus Lewe, who will step down on November 1.
In the first round of voting held on September 14, Tilman Fuchs from the Green Party received the most votes, with 41.30%, while Dr. Georg Lunemann from the CDU followed closely behind with 37.28%. As no candidate managed to secure more than 50% of the votes, a runoff election was necessary.
A total of 162,196 voters cast their ballots in the first round, representing a voter turnout of 64.80%. This turnout was slightly higher than the 2020 mayoral election, which saw a voter turnout of 62.95%.
In addition to Fuchs and Lunemann, other candidates in the race included Dr. Katharina Martinewski from The Left, who received 4.76% of the votes, Dr. Georgios Tsakalidis from the International Democratic List, Roland Scholle from The Party, Maren Berkenheide from Volt, and Franz Pohlmann from the ÖDP. Each of these candidates received less than 10% of the votes.
The election committee has confirmed that the election was conducted properly with no objections. The runoff election results, as well as information about the election, can be found at [www.stadt-unser website/wahlen].
The runoff election is an important event in the political history of Münster and will decide the outcome of the mayoral race. Whether Fuchs or Lunemann will become the new Mayor of Münster remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the winner of the runoff election will become the head of the city of Münster.
