Breaking News: Notorious Drug Lord Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, aka "Don Neto", Released from Mexican Prison

In a shocking turn of events, Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, the founder of the infamous Guadalajara drug cartel in Mexico, has been released from prison after serving a 40-year sentence for the murder of a US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent, Enrique "Kiki" Camarena.

Despite his release, Fonseca Carrillo, also known as "Don Neto", remains "at large" according to the DEA, as a trial against him for Camarena's murder is set to take place in the US. The trial could result in a death sentence.

The Guadalajara drug cartel, notorious for its involvement in drug trafficking and other criminal activities in Mexico and the United States, was one of the most notorious drug trafficking organizations in Mexico during the 1980s. The cartel no longer exists, but it was the most powerful in Mexico at the time.

In addition to the murder of Camarena, Fonseca Carrillo was also convicted for the murder of a Mexican pilot in 1985. He was convicted for the torture and murder of Camarena, who was infiltrated into the cartel by the US Anti-Drug Agency DEA.

The extradition of Fonseca Carrillo to the US for trial was not possible during his time in prison, but the US justice system has initiated a trial against him for the murder of Camarena. The responsibility for the trial lies with the U.S. federal prosecutors and the judiciary handling the case.

Interestingly, the extradition of Fonseca Carrillo's partner, Rafael Caro Quintero, to the US occurred in February 2023. Caro Quintero was extradited along with 28 other suspected criminals deemed very dangerous.

Caro Quintero's extradition does not affect the release of Fonseca Carrillo from Mexican prison. The release announcement was made by Mexican judicial sources on Wednesday evening (local time). After decades in prison, Carrillo was placed under house arrest in 2017 due to his advanced age and health issues.

The extradition of these criminals to the US was significant due to their dangerous status. The US government has been actively working to bring these individuals to justice for their crimes against the United States and its citizens.

The trial against Fonseca Carrillo in the US for the murder of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena is a significant step towards justice for Camarena's family and the DEA. The outcome of the trial will have far-reaching implications for the history of drug trafficking in Mexico and the United States. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
