Elderly male fatally injured in boating mishap during a sporting event
In a tragic turn of events, a 73-year-old man was discovered lifeless in the sports boat harbor in Drage/Elbstorf, Harburg district, on Monday morning.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, had driven his boat into the harbor in the evening but did not return home as agreed. His wife reported him missing to the police around 7:50 a.m. after they had last spoken on the phone the previous evening.
Upon receiving the report, emergency services from the fire department and DLRG were dispatched to the scene. A thorough search of the harbor ensued, with a sonar boat detecting a suspicious point on the bottom of the harbor. Divers retrieved the man's lifeless body from the water around 11:30 a.m.
