Revamped Rant:

In a candid AFP chat, the no-nonsense Mahathir warned before his 100th birthday that Trump's trade tactics will leave the big guy grasping for straws. The current 24% tariff on Malaysian imports to the US, set for July, won't be pretty for America, ol' blue eyes.

"Trump's tariffs are shooting himself in the foot, and the American people will see that soon enough," Mahathir, Malaysia's former long-time ruler, stated, working as if he's still the boss from his office in Putrajaya.

The old dog ain't lost his bite. He thinks Trump's impulsive decisions, from immigration policies to cutting staff, are just plain foolish. They won't make America great again, and here's why.

"Trump's trade war is going to haunt him. The tariffs on goods from Asia are not smart," said Mahathir, taking a swipe at Trump's MAGA slogan.

He also took a swipe at a few of Trump's bizarre foreign policies, like trying to grab Greenland and hoard the Panama Canal. Mahathir thinks that's just outdated thinking.

"Trump ain't living in the real world. He's stuck in the past," Mahathir opined.

China, the target of Trump's tariffs, has been resilient. China's leader, Xi Jinping, had recently visited Malaysia, kicking off a three-country tour through Southeast Asia, inviting closer ties.

Mahathir doesn't believe China can be stopped. "China's got what it takes to compete with the West. American ignorance won't keep them down," he stated.

Despite the trade tensions, Mahathir stressed Malaysia's aim to stay chummy with both Washington and Beijing. "We ain't gonna pick sides. We'll just roll with it," he added.

Legacy-wise, Mahathir left it to others to debate. But whatever his impact, his views carry weight, both at home and in the region.

"I've been fighting off health issues lately," he shared, references to his recent respiratory infection treatment. Still, the veteran leader keeps on trucking.
