Elderly driver critically injured in icy crash on B478 near Waldbröl

An 89-year-old man from Eitorf was seriously injured in a traffic accident on the B478 Brölstraße in Waldbröl on Sunday, November 23, 2025. The crash occurred in snowy conditions, leading to a full road closure while emergency services responded.

The elderly driver was travelling towards Rupichteroth when his vehicle skidded on the icy surface. It then collided with an oncoming small delivery van near Rossenbach. Firefighters had to ready him from the wreckage before he was airlifted to University Hospital Bonn with severe injuries.

The incident highlights the risks of winter driving in the region. Emergency crews worked quickly to clear the scene, though the elderly man’s condition remains under medical care. The road reopened once the investigation concluded.
