In a remarkable tale of survival, a 63-year-old female diver from St. Petersburg was found alive after spending approximately 24 hours in the cold waters of the Tatar Strait, located off the coast of Sakhalin.

The diver went missing during a dive organised by a magazine expedition. According to reports, her instructor surfaced early, leaving her alone underwater. The woman's exceptional composure and possibly prior training helped her avoid panic in the harsh ocean conditions.

Rescue efforts were swiftly launched, involving a Russian search-and-rescue vessel named Otto Schmidt. The diver was discovered holding a red object, which helped rescuers locate her 15 kilometers from the shore.

Medical experts have highlighted self-control as crucial for survival in such cases. Fortunately, the diver did not require hospitalization, and officials have confirmed her condition to be stable.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Sakhalin branch of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations. The investigation focuses on the circumstances leading to her separation and the response actions taken.

Meanwhile, another incident involving a traveler who did not survive a swim at a beach in Sochi is also under investigation.

This remarkable rescue story was reported by the SHOT Telegram channel, and it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety measures during underwater activities.
