Elbe Film Festivities commence on Thursday, 2025
Get Ready for the Buzz at Elbe's 35th Filmnights!
Even while construction next door chops away, the excitement for the annual Filmnights at the Elbe riverbank is reaching a fever pitch. Starting on the 19th of June, this renowned open-air cinema and concert festival, Europe's largest, will kick off its 35th edition.
Kicking off the festivities is "The Soft and the Loud Tones" by Emmanuel Courcol, a poignant comedy that delves into crucial societal issues, illness, and family evolution. Music serves as the binding force in this heartfelt film. Catch a glimpse of the film on the cinema calendar.
"5th of September" is slated for June 23rd. This film takes us through the tumultuous events surrounding the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre, portrayed from the lens of live reporting. It underscores how a single day could reshape the world and media landscape.
On June 26th, "Maria," a biographical drama by Pablo Larraín, will make an appearance. The film focuses on the final years of opera singer Maria Callas in Paris, with Angelina Jolie starring in the lead role. On June 29th, "Anora" will grace the screen. This film narrates the tale of Ani, a Brooklyn stripper who marries a Russian oligarch's son. "Anora" captured the Palme d'Or at Cannes and five Oscars.
Special Features
The family cinema hosts afternoon films on a 28 square meter LED screen. Expect a mix of adventure, animations, and family-friendly flicks. The opening film will be "The Little Mole". The midnight cinema will present classics like "The Big Lebowski", "Love Lies Bleeding", and "Hundreds of Beavers" on three separate occasions from Tuesday to Wednesday night. The "Filmnights Soundtrack" series concentrates on films boasting outstanding soundtracks.
Concert Performances
The fun starts right away on Friday with Ski Aggu, a German rapper from Berlin known for his ski goggles. Some tickets are still available. Nina Chuba, almost completely sold out, is set to take the stage on Saturday. With "Wildberry Lillet," she stormed the top of the German single charts. Her debut album "Glas" reached number one, followed by sold-out tours and headlining festival performances.
