"El-Rufai Expresses Doubt About Tinubu's Chance for Re-election"

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has voiced substantial doubts about the prospect of President Bola Tinubu securing reelection in 2027, despite the confidence displayed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Assembly (NASS) in Tinubu's second term bid.

In an interview on the Social Democratic Party (SDP) national updates, El-Rufai, a vocal critic of Tinubu's administration, declared that anyone who believes Tinubu can be reelected is "living in another country, not Nigeria." He further expressed that he does not see a viable pathway for Tinubu's reelection, irrespective of the disorganization within the opposition parties.

The former governor based his skepticism on the deteriorating economic and political climate under Tinubu's presidency, which he believes has dwindled Tinubu's support base beyond repair. El-Rufai has joined forces with political heavyweights like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to build a broad coalition aimed at unseating Tinubu in the 2027 elections, emphasizing a strategic response to perceived governance failures and lack of grassroots support for Tinubu.

While APC governors and NASS members have publicly endorsed Tinubu's second term, the endorsements face criticism from opposition coalitions. These critics argue that such endorsements bypass the electorate's voice, essentially "endorsing themselves" without proper consultation. This internal conflict within Nigerian politics signifies a broader dissatisfaction among the population with the administration's governance and the political process.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the APC Governors have expressed confidence in Tinubu's ability to be reelected, citing him as the sole candidate of the party. However, El-Rufai's stance presents an opposing view that questions the President's chances of success in the upcoming elections.
