Eкатеринбург to freeze at -30°C
Yekaterinburg is bracing for a dramatic freeze as temperatures plunge by 26°C in just two days. The city has already seen wild swings this week, with readings jumping from -29°C to -3°C. Now, an even sharper cold snap is on the way by Christmas Eve.
The shift begins on December 23, when daytime highs will hover between -4°C and -7°C. But by December 24, the mercury will drop sharply to -20°C and -26°C.
The freeze will deepen by Christmas Day, with highs of -24°C to -26°C and overnight lows hitting -28°C to -30°C. Northern parts of the region may see temperatures fall as low as -40°C. Some relief is expected from December 26, as temperatures start to climb slowly. By December 28, readings could reach -8°C.
The sudden cold follows a week of extreme fluctuations in Yekaterinburg. Residents will face the deepest chill on December 25, with a steady warming trend beginning shortly after. The region’s northern areas remain at risk of the most severe conditions.
