Frankfurt Hopes for Goalkeeper Kauã Santos: 'Keeping Our Fingers Crossed' - Eintracht Frankfurt's Kauã Santos faces new injury scare after early collision
Eintracht Frankfurt's goalkeeper Kauã Santos suffered an injury scare in the 2-0 win over SC Freiburg. The incident occurred just 17 seconds into the match, raising concerns about his fitness. His absence could further disrupt the club's already unstable goalkeeping situation.
Santos was hurt in a collision with former Frankfurt striker Igor Matanović. The Brazilian keeper had previously torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the same knee last year, sidelining him for nine months. This time, however, an ACL tear appears unlikely.
After his first injury, Santos underwent conservative treatment before returning in December 2023. Michael Zetterer, signed from Werder Bremen last summer, had started the season as first choice but lost his place once Santos recovered. On Saturday, Zetterer stepped in again and delivered a composed performance, making key saves.
Coach Albert Riera remains hopeful that the latest injury is not serious. Further clarity is expected by Monday, but if Santos faces another long absence, Frankfurt's goalkeeping role will be uncertain once more.
The club now awaits medical updates on Santos' condition. If he is ruled out for an extended period, Zetterer may take over as the primary goalkeeper again. This would mark another shift in a position that has seen frequent changes this season.
