Frankfurt continues to rely on interim duo - Eintracht Frankfurt names interim coaches for Champions League showdown with Tottenham
Eintracht Frankfurt has placed interim coaches in charge for their upcoming matches. Dennis Schmitt and Alex Meier will lead the team in their next game and the Champions League clash with Tottenham Hotspur. The club continues its search for a permanent head coach.
The decision follows the departure of the previous manager, leaving the side without a long-term leader. Sporting director Markus Krösche confirmed that Schmitt and Meier will oversee the next fixtures but did not reveal plans beyond that. Both coaches already work within the club’s youth system.
Schmitt, 32, previously managed Eintracht Frankfurt’s U21 side. Meier, 43, coaches the U19 team and remains a well-known figure after his playing days with the club. Their first test will be the Champions League home game against Tottenham.
Meanwhile, the club is evaluating candidates for the permanent role. Names under consideration include Marco Rose, formerly of RB Leipzig, Kjetil Knutsen from Bodø/Glimt, and Alexander Blessin of FC St. Pauli. Blessin, however, has distanced himself from the speculation. No official announcement has yet been made.
The interim setup provides short-term stability while the search for a new head coach continues. Schmitt and Meier will guide the team through at least two matches, including a key European fixture. The club’s next permanent appointment will shape its direction for the season ahead.
