Ansgar Knauff added the fifth and final goal for Eintracht Frankfurt, knocking out Galatasaray Istanbul. Baris Yilmaz had a chance to reduce the deficit for the visitors, firing a shot into the night sky after a free-kick layoff from Gündogan, but it was not enough to prevent a comprehensive victory for the German side.
The match marked Eintracht Frankfurt's first three points in the group stage of the Champions League, a significant milestone for the club, which returned to the top tier of football after 940 days. Kevin Trapp, who had joined Paris Saint-Germain, was given a festive send-off by Eintracht Frankfurt fans before the match, adding to the sense of occasion.
