Galatasaray Suffer Heavy Defeat in Champions League Opener Against Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt secured their first three points in the Champions League with a convincing 5-1 (3-1) victory over Galatasaray Istanbul. The match, played in front of 58,700 spectators, was a tough night for the Turkish football team.

The opening goal of the game came in the 8th minute, courtesy of Yunus Akgun for Galatasaray. Leroy Sané played an opening pass to Akgun, who found the back of the net. However, Frankfurt responded swiftly. In the 37th minute, Davinson Sanchez deflected a header from Ritsu Doan, leading to an own goal. After half an hour, Sanchez scored another own goal, this time from an Eintracht attack, to make it 2-1 in favor of the German team.

Frankfurt extended their lead before half-time, with Can Uzun scoring in the 43rd minute. The VAR review confirmed that the goal stood, and Frankfurt went into the break with a 3-1 advantage.

Jonathan Burkardt added to Frankfurt's tally in the 45+2nd minute, making it 4-1. Burkardt scored his second goal in the 66th minute, a header that increased Frankfurt's lead to 5-1.

Eren Elmali deflected a header from Robin Koch for Galatasaray, but the ball was saved by Gala goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir. Ansgar Knauff scored the fifth goal for Frankfurt in the 75th minute, fifteen minutes from time, delivering the final knockout blow.

Kevin Trapp, who has moved to Paris FC, was given a festive send-off by the fans before the match. Trapp wished his former teammates good luck for the challenging tasks ahead in the Champions League.

The German national football players who played for Galatasaray Istanbul in the described match include Leroy Sané and İlkay Gündoğan. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to prevent their team from suffering a heavy defeat.
