In a thrilling encounter at the Deutsche Bank Park, Eintracht Frankfurt returned to the top tier after a 940-day absence with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Galatasaray Istanbul in their Champions League debut.

The home team took an early lead in the 2nd minute when a shot by Ansgar Knauff was saved by Gala goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, but the rebound fell kindly for Ritsu Doan. His lob was inadvertently deflected by Davinson Sanchez into his own net, putting Eintracht Frankfurt on the scoreboard.

Galatasaray responded in the 8th minute when Yunus Akgun scored to level the game, but Eintracht Frankfurt soon regained the lead. Can Uzun finished a low cross from Jonathan Burkardt to make it 2-1, before Burkardt himself scored his first goal for the club from a free-kick by Fares Chaibi, making it 3-1 for the home team.

In the second half, Eintracht Frankfurt extended their lead with another Burkardt header, deflected by Sanchez, to make it 4-1. The VAR upheld the goal in the 37th minute, despite protests from the Galatasaray players.

The anticipated comeback of Galatasaray failed to materialize after the break, as Eintracht Frankfurt controlled the game and secured a comfortable victory. Ansgar Knauff added a fifth goal for the home team in the final minutes, securing a 5-1 victory.

Eintracht Frankfurt's new signing, Michael Zetterer, contributed to the win, while Kevin Trapp, who has moved to Paris Saint-Germain, was given a ceremonial farewell by the fans before the match.

Jonathan Burkardt was named player of the match on DAZN, with his brace and assist earning him the plaudits. The Champions League group stage is considered a challenging task, but Eintracht Frankfurt secured their first three points and will be hoping to build on this impressive result in their upcoming games.
