King Felipe VI's State Visit to Egypt: Strengthening Ties and Advocating for Peace

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia have embarked on a historic state visit to Egypt, aiming to strengthen strategic relations between the two nations. The visit, which began on Tuesday evening, has been marked by bilateral meetings, cultural exchanges, and a strong emphasis on humanitarian issues.

Upon arrival, King Felipe VI was received by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi with the highest honours at the Presidential Palace of Al-Ittihadiya. The royal couple also had the opportunity to meet with President Al Sisi and the Egyptian first lady during these meetings.

During his first state address in Egypt, King Felipe VI denounced the "unbearable humanitarian crisis" in Gaza. He recognised Egypt's mediating role in achieving a ceasefire agreement, the release of hostages, and the full establishment of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. The King advocated for the creation of a viable Palestinian state that can coexist with Israel in peace and security, and endorsed the Gaza reconstruction plan, necessary for the population to recover their lives and dignity.

In a reception at the Spanish Embassy in Cairo to the Spanish community residing in Egypt, King Felipe VI stated that "we cannot be indifferent to the reality that surrounds us" regarding the suffering of the Gazan population caused by Israel.

The royal couple also attended a floral offering at the tomb of President Sadat and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in Cairo.

On Friday, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will tour the Luxor Museum and visit several ancient tombs. They will also have the opportunity to explore archaeological excavations led by Spanish experts. Queen Letizia will visit the Sultan Foundation in the City of the Dead on Thursday.

King Felipe VI highlighted the close relationship between Spain and Egypt, two cultures rooted in the Mediterranean with a similar way of understanding life. He also emphasised the valuable contribution of Egyptian Hispanism, with Spanish departments in several universities such as Cairo and the Suez Canal.

In addition to cultural exchanges, the visit also includes a business forum. King Felipe VI will inaugurate the Spain-Egypt Business Forum on Thursday morning.

The royal couple will travel to Luxor on Thursday and remain until Friday for a series of visits. During their stay, they will hold a meeting with the Prime Minister of Egypt, Mostafa Madbuli, and will meet with the President of the Chamber of Representatives of Egypt, Hanafy El-Gabali, and with the President of the Senate, Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, after the official lunch.

It is worth noting that there are no search results indicating that any Spanish companies are involved in the lighting of the monuments in Luxor.

This state visit promises to be a significant step in strengthening the already close ties between Spain and Egypt, and in advocating for peace and humanitarian aid in the Middle East.
