Facebook Twitter Whatsapp E-Mail Print Copy Link Egon Coordes, a pivotal figure in FC Bayern Munich's success, has left us. He served alongside Jupp Heynckes and Giovanni Trapattoni, two football titans. Coordes, a former player himself, ended his journey at the age of 80, following a lengthy illness at his Memmingen home.

Coordes earned renown as FC Bayern Munich's dedicated assistant coach, working alongside Udo Lattek and Heynckes. Together, they claimed four German championships in 1985, 1986, 1989, and 1990. In 1997, the astute German rejoined Trapattoni's team, and, in 2011, he made a comeback to Heynckes' coaching staff. Even post-Bayern, Coordes worked with the basketball team.

Prior to his move to Munich, Coordes cultivated his coaching career in his hometown. Between 1976, after wrapping up his active career, and 1984, he directed Tus Bremerhaven and OSC Bremerhaven.

Coach Coordes' head coaching gigs in the first and second leagues didn't see the same triumph as his tenure with Bayern. His stints at VfB Stuttgart, Hamburger SV, and Hannover 96 were brief. Otherwise, Coordes coached in Austria, Switzerland, the Gulf region, and even Iran in 1999, albeit without lasting glory.

As a player, Coordes put in 157 Bundesliga games for Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart. The Swabians, for whom Coordes donned the jersey 139 times, will remember their stalwart former player with fondness.

Let's celebrate the life and work of Egon Coordes, a trailblazer in the football world who dedicated his life to the beautiful game.
