Get Ready for the Middle Urals Elections

The campaign for the Middle Urals region is heating up! The election season kicks off on September 14, with elections for the governor and deputies in several municipalities. This massive voting event will be overseen by a whopping 26,000 specialists, ensuring a smooth and transparent process for the over three million residents eligible to vote.

Elena Klimenko, chairperson of the regional election commission, shared details about the election process at a recent press conference. Here's what we know.

Wanna Run for Governor? Here's How!

If you're feeling the political itch and fancy yourself as the next governor of the Middle Urals, there are a few hoops to jump through first. Before registering as a candidate, you'll need to secure at least 120 to 126 signatures from deputies, representing both urban and rural settlements. It's not enough to just collect signatures within the largest city, Yekaterinburg—you'll need support from across the region to be taken seriously.

The support of local residents and municipal leaders is crucial, too. Any Russian citizen over the age of 30 with permanent residency in the region can make a run for governor, but that's just the beginning. To secure the nomination, you'll need backing from a political party and the support of at least 55 municipal formations in the region. Remember, self-nomination is a no-go in this region.

Preparing for the Big Day

With over 1,500 polling stations to be opened across the Middle Urals—including temporary stations in hospitals, detention centers, airports, and train stations—voters will have plenty of options to cast their ballots. To cater to those who can't leave home due to health reasons, advanced requests for home voting will be accepted from September 4 to 14. The region will also offer remote voting via the "Gosuslugi" portal, with applications needing to be submitted by September 8.

Safety Measures

To ensure the safety of voters, video surveillance will be in place at every polling station. Commission members will undergo training and joint exercises with EMERCOM, MVD, and other services, including practicing for non-standard scenarios such as power outages or evacuations.

"Our aim is to make participating in the elections as convenient and transparent as possible," stressed Elena Klimenko. "We want voters to feel that their vote matters and is counted."

As previously reported by "Oblaastnaya Gazeta", the early gubernatorial elections in the Middle Urals will take place on September 14. Get ready to make your voice heard!
