EFCC Set to Arraign Social Media Critic 'VeryDarkMan' After His Arrest
EFCC Prepares to Free Infamous Figure, VeryDarkMan
It's looking like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is panicking after initially busting social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, famously known as VeryDarkMan. He got nabbed on a Friday in May, setting off a tidal wave of public backlash and accusations of silencing free speech.
And now, our sources whisper that the EFCC plans to let him breathe some fresh air by Tuesday, before formally charging him court-side on Thursday. A high-ranking officer at the anti-graft agency, speaking candidly with Vanguard, shared that VeryDarkMan was still locked up because he hadn't been formally presented in court.
Rumors swirl that the Commission is prepping multiple charges against Otse, based on a slew of petitions branding him a cyberstalker and other related offenses.
To put the cat among the pigeons, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed to BBC News Pidgin on Monday that the arrest was in response to a severity of complaints. "We imprisoned him to answer to a series of allegations raised against him by some complainants," Oyewale stated, further noting that the complaints came from different individuals, not just Guarantee Trust Bank.
Oyewale added that the commission intended to present Otse in court and only release him once he meets the necessary bail conditions.
