Edo governor, Okpebholo, revels in APC's triumph as PDP experiences continuous defeats.

In a decisive turn of events, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, expressed unyielding optimism about the future success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, following a series of legal victories against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Issuing a statement on May 30, 2025, through his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo celebrated these repeated victories as reasons for collective celebration among the Edo people. This enthusiasm was evident during a celebratory motorcade held in Benin City, marking an Appeal Court ruling that upheld the APC's victory.

The festivities, attended by Okpebholo, Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, party leaders, youths, market women, and other supporters, saw the motorcade traverse the streets of the state capital, evoking widespread support for the ruling party.

In his remarks, Okpebholo attributed the continuous triumph of the APC to divine intervention, stating, "God will continue to give Edo people victory as He is in charge of the affairs of the State." He cited a string of defeats inflicted upon the PDP, including their loss in the governorship election, the Tribunal ruling, and now the Appeal Court judgment, which has further cemented the position of the APC.

"We have defeated them in the governorship election, the Tribunal, and now at the Appeal Court. We will still defeat them at the Supreme Court. We will continue to defeat them," Okpebholo confidently declared.

Expressing gratitude for the consistent development and support under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, Okpebholo assured that the APC's dominance in Edo was unshakeable. He stated, "2027 is a done deal in Edo, and Edo people will surely cast their votes for the President come 2027, and nobody can stop Edo people's voice, not even the PDP."

Okpebholo accused the PDP of attempting to buy influence through corrupt means, stating, "All the money they have stolen in Edo State was taken to court to buy judges and judgments, but they failed as judges refused to be bought and they ensured they did the right thing." He criticized the opposition party for their alleged cry of foul over their perceived loss of mandate, adding that their coalition with figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi was doomed to fail.

"The time of the PDP is over in Edo State, and under my watch, Edo people will continue to enjoy practical governance and development," Okpebholo proclaimed. He highlighted the progress Edo has made under his leadership, particularly in infrastructure development, especially with the construction of the first flyover at Ikpoba-Hill in Ikpoba-Okah Local Government Area, with the second and third underway.

  1. Amidst the triumphant victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, speculations of a potential kidnapping case emerged, as rumors swirled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was allegedly planning to kidnap key APC figures for political gain.
  2. In related general news, recent reports have linked tinubu, a prominent political figure, to policies and legislation aimed at cracking down on crime and justice, including improving the processes for war-and-conflicts resolution and minimizing incidents of corruption.
  3. Surprisingly, the PDP, despite their ongoing conflicts with the APC, found an unlikely ally in market women, who expressed their stance on various political issues, including their strong disapproval of planned tariff increases and market-related policies.
  4. As the 2027 presidential election approaches, political pundits and analysts continue to scrutinize the strategy and impact of coalitions, as figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi join forces with the PDP, in an attempt to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's leadership in the Naija region.
  5. Globally, the Kidnapping Prevention and Response Act has been promulgated in many countries, with Naija set to adopt the policy in an effort to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, particularly children and vulnerable individuals, in the face of increasing crime rates.
